The renowned Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo in Mercedes
It is one of the top ten largest livestock shows in all of Texas, with well over 160,000 in attendance per year. The show features livestock, rodeo competitions, and the Midway Carnival with its vast assortment of rides, petting zoo, car shows, and live concerts.
The core of the Rio Grande Livestock Show and Rodeo is the livestock exhibits and education for the area youth. Each year over $50,000 in scholarships are granted to 4-H and FFA students.
In addition to livestock, the attendees enjoy watching professionals and amateurs compete in the rodeo in barrel racing, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, and team roping.
